Quality, Health, Environment & Safety (QHES)

SOLEN is committed to continuous improvement of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) in its operations by benchmarking best-in-class standards. Inspired by our Vision and Mission, we stay focused on attaining and maintaining the highest standards through the selection, design, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of assets across their life cycle.

The following are the key pillars of QHSE standards at SOLEN:

QHES Carbon Neutrality

Carbon Neutrality

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges pushing the earth towards an environmental disaster. The world is already bearing the brunt of decades of unthoughtful activities in the form of harsh winters and summers and untimely rainfalls. Reducing the carbon footprint is just one of the many initiatives SOLEN undertakes to help the environment.

Aiming at fostering a sustainable industrialisation process in Africa, this zone has been designed to have the lowest possible carbon impact. To further project and enhance sustainable industrial development, SOLEN through its associate entities, has taken up the target of deployment of solar panels, which is primarily meant to provide reliable, low-carbon, cost-competitive energy for industrial and commercial activities.

Solar energy produces up to 96% fewer CO2 emissions than traditional non-renewable energy sources like fossil fuels. This means significantly less carbon dioxide is being released into our atmosphere with solar energy, slowing down the earth’s rising temperatures.

Water Neutrality

Traditional sources of energy, such as coal, natural gas and oil, are major causes of water pollution. Fossil fuel power plants rely heavily on water use and require vast amounts of water to generate energy. This negatively impacts local water supplies due to the increase of acidity and toxicity in the water, contaminating lakes, rivers, lakes, as well as drinking water. Solar energy only uses a moderate amount of water for maintenance (no water is used to produce power), reducing the possibilities of water pollution, nor does it lead to depletion of potable water tables in the location of projects.

SOLEN further strives to achieve water neutrality by balancing the demand and supply of water at its sites. We plan to achieve this through the rational use of water, reducing the usage and waste, and re-use as and where possible.

Environment

The earth has a limited amount of fossil fuels. SOLEN encourages everyone to focus on extracting cleaner, more sustainable sources of energy. This lessens the need for non-renewable resources while minimising the harmful effects.

Safety

SOLEN aims for a balanced socio-economic development across its focus countries, increasing development within local economies while protecting and contributing to environmental sustainability and ensuring the health and safety of the company’s workforce.
