Our Approach to Sustainability
SOLEN commits to providing plans to go beyond its business of providing clean energy – to integrate sustainability deep into its ethos and operations. We realise that it is not enough to be in a clean business, but that sustainable practice should remain at the core of our every step.
“ Combining Sustainable Development with Human Ingenuity”
Reduction in Carbon Footprint
SOLEN is committed to leading change in Africa’s current energy portfolio by delivering cleaner and smarter energy choices and thereby reducing its carbon footprint. Solen plans to play a pivotal role in meeting Africa’s growing energy needs thanks to an efficient, sustainable and socially responsible approach.
Sustainability for Stakeholders
At SOLEN, we engage with a broad range of stakeholders – customers, employees, researchers, policymakers, regulators, investors, NGOs and local communities – to understand the sustainability themes that are most important to them. Through detailed stakeholder consultation and material assessment, we identify an array of topics and issues which are critical to our business and track our progress on these issues throughout the year.
Local Value Creation via Sustainable Growth
Our sustainability efforts are focused on creating balanced value growth for all the stakeholders – customers, employees, researchers, policymakers, regulators, investors, NGOs, and local communities, aiming for long-term development of society at large.
Lean Funding Structure
SOLEN aims at adopting an optimum funding model for each project, tapping into limited recourse debt markets, capital markets or bank loans, while seeking to reduce the funding cost of each project and to optimise its shareholders’ risk / return profile. To optimise funding models for each project, it plans to build on DFI and ECA resources, capital markets, bank loans and limited recourse debt markets in a manner that optimises shareholders’ risk / return profile while minimising project funding costs.
